Sheye Metal prepared a batch of 6mm 304 No.1 stainless steel plate for a customer in Colombia, with a nominal finished size of 6 × 1500 × 6000 mm. Before dispatch, our team checked thickness, width, length, material marking and surface appearance, and carried out handheld PMI screening. The photographs record the dimensional and material checks on the finished plates.
Coil-cut plate for a 1500 × 6000 mm requirement
For a standard 1500 mm width, 6mm hot-rolled stainless steel plate is commonly supplied by levelling coil and cutting it to length. The coil route lets a supplier prepare the required plate length from available material, making it a practical choice when an order needs standard widths and a prompt processing schedule.
No.1 describes a hot-rolled, annealed and descaled surface, commonly produced with pickling. It has a matt industrial appearance. ASSDA describes the No.1 mill finish and its production route. Buyers should specify the surface they need for fabrication, especially if a visible decorative finish will be added later.
A much wider requirement, such as 2500 mm, can call for individually rolled plate, also known as quarto plate. Sheye can review this route for 6mm 304, subject to the mill’s available size combination. For comparable orders in our supply practice, individually rolled material generally carries a higher price than coil-cut plate. The premium and lead time depend on width, quantity, mill scheduling and inspection requirements.
| Purchasing question | Coil-cut plate | Individually rolled plate |
|---|---|---|
| How is the finished plate obtained? | Coil is uncoiled, levelled and cut to the agreed length. | Plate is rolled as an individual piece and finished to the agreed dimensions. |
| Which widths suit the route? | Standard widths, including the 1500 mm width in this case. | Special wider requirements, such as 2500 mm, after mill review. |
| What affects price and timing? | Available coil, cutting plan and processing schedule. | Mill availability, order quantity and the requested plate size; generally a higher cost for a comparable order. |
Our 304 stainless steel plate supply page sets out the two routes. Specify the required finished dimensions and tolerances when comparing quotations.
Pre-shipment checks on the Colombia plates
Thickness, width and length
The order calls for a nominal thickness of 6mm. The three photographed micrometer readings are 5.944 mm, 5.945 mm and 5.917 mm. They show the thickness at the photographed positions; acceptance depends on the thickness tolerance agreed for the order.
| Photograph | Displayed thickness | Order thickness |
|---|---|---|
| Check 1 | 5.944 mm | 6 mm nominal |
| Check 2 | 5.945 mm | |
| Check 3 | 5.917 mm |

Width and length are checked against the nominal 1500 × 6000 mm plate size. The tape photographs show the plate edges near the 150 cm and 600 cm graduations. Precise acceptance measurements belong in the inspection record, using the agreed measurement method.

PMI screening and visual inspection
The handheld analyzer displays a 304 identification, with chromium at 18.16% and nickel at 8.42%. These are the displayed screening results. Handheld XRF PMI helps check alloy identity; carbon content, mechanical properties and the full material specification require the relevant test records and mill certificate.

Visual inspection covers the exposed No.1 surface and plate edges, looking for visible damage and surface conditions that need review before packing. Material marking is also included in the pre-shipment check. The inspection process connects the finished plate, order requirements and supply records; see our quality and export delivery process.
Reading the source-coil certificate
The supplied mill test certificate is a source-coil reference from Guangdong Guangqing Metal Technology Co., Ltd. It lists S30408 under GB/T 713.7-2023 in a solution-treated, pickled No.1 condition. Its relevant row, heat G260705D181-2, records a coil size of 5.75 × 1525 mm × C. The finished order is nominally 6 × 1500 × 6000 mm. The certificate does not explain the difference between its listed 5.75 mm coil thickness and the photographed finished-plate readings.
The reference copy below has the ordering and receiving company names and its QR code removed. It documents the listed source-coil test information; it does not establish a separate finished-plate test result or an additional material-standard certification.

Where a 6mm section is useful
Compared with a thinner plate of the same material and comparable geometry, a 6mm section can provide greater bending stiffness and load capacity. Thickness alone does not increase the material’s yield or tensile strength. Span, supports, connections and the fabrication design determine how a component carries its load.
Typical uses include machinery bases, equipment supports, brackets, industrial platforms, tank walls and tank bottoms. Food and beverage equipment, pharmaceutical equipment and commercial kitchen fabrication may also use 304 plate where the service conditions suit the grade. Hygienic equipment needs an appropriate finished surface and weld treatment; the No.1 mill finish is a starting condition for fabrication.
For pressure vessels, structural components or chemical equipment, specify the design requirements, service temperature, medium and required material documents before purchasing. A 304 grade name and a 6mm thickness do not establish suitability for every pressure, load or corrosion environment. Marine or chloride exposure needs particular attention during grade selection.
6mm 304 No.1 stainless steel plate supply and processing
Sheye Metal regularly stocks 6mm hot-rolled 304 material from TISCO, Tsingshan, Dongte and Delong. Mill origin can be selected to suit the customer’s purchasing requirements. When you need 6mm 304 No.1 stainless steel plate in stock, we can confirm the available mill, width, quantity and dispatch schedule with your quotation.
Available supply widths include 1000, 1219, 1250, 1500, 1524, 1800, 1829 and 2000 mm. Non-standard widths are reviewed separately. The full thickness, width and length combination is confirmed by order.
Further processing can include No.4 or 8K surface finishing, laser cutting, punching, bending and welding. Share a drawing and identify the visible surface, dimensional tolerances and any fabrication allowance so we can quote the required work.
