A Serbian customer needed cold rolled 316L 6mm 2B stainless steel sheet for equipment with demanding cleanliness and exposed-surface requirements. The end user specified the manufacturing route as well as the grade and thickness. Hot rolled sheet, including hot rolled material subsequently ground to improve its appearance, was excluded.
The end user had already tried different materials. TISCO’s cold rolled 6mm 316L with a 2B finish passed that evaluation. Sheye Metal supplied the approved material in 6 × 1250 × 2500mm sheets, with ordinary black-and-white protective film applied during cut-to-length processing. The photographs below record part of the order’s on-line dimensional self-inspection.
Why the Serbian customer specified cold rolled 6mm 316L 2B
The customer’s earlier trials established an accepted material route for the visible equipment surfaces. Matching that route mattered when purchasing the production material: a 316L grade designation and a 6mm nominal thickness alone did not describe the full requirement.
A 2B finish is associated with cold rolling, heat treatment, pickling and skin passing, as described in Outokumpu’s mill-finish reference. Grinding a hot rolled surface does not reproduce that manufacturing route. For this order, the purchase specification therefore retained both the cold rolled route and the TISCO 2B finish that the end user had approved.
In this project’s purchasing comparison, the cold rolled 316L 6mm 2B material cost approximately US$600 more per metric tonne than the hot rolled alternative. The customer accepted the premium because it kept procurement consistent with the material already approved in trials and reduced the risk of selecting a substitute that would fail surface acceptance.

1250mm stock width makes a difference on small orders
Buyers looking for 316L 6mm × 1250mm 2B stainless steel sheet need to check the parent-coil width as well as the grade and finish. In the domestic stock channels Sheye encounters, four-foot 6mm 316L coils are commonly 1219mm wide. They cannot produce a 1250mm-wide sheet.
One possible route is to slit a 1500mm coil to the required width and then cut it to length. Sheye can consider that route for orders of five tonnes or more. The wider coil leaves material outside the required 1250mm strip, whose value depends on whether it can be used or sold for another requirement.
For an order of only one or two tonnes, the cost allocation can become much less attractive. The job must account for the residual strip, processing and any head-and-tail secondary material. The head-and-tail allowance does not necessarily fall in proportion to a smaller order, so it can represent a larger cost per finished tonne.
Sheye orders TISCO cold rolled 2B coils in the nominal 1250mm width category and keeps stock for the 316L 2B 6 × 1250 × 2500mm requirement. This gives the order a source-coil route suited to the requested width, with edge preparation and cut-to-length processing arranged for the finished sheets. It avoids making every small 1250mm order depend on a new 1500mm slitting job.

Dimensional self-inspection on the processing line
The supplied photographs show checks of sheet width, length and both diagonal directions. These checks document the sheets during processing, before the material moves on to the next handling stage. The white face visible across the sheet is the protective film.

The close-up and full-sheet views are useful together: one shows the scale near an edge, while the other shows how the tape was positioned across the sheet. The photographs are process records; the agreed dimensions and tolerances remain part of the order’s inspection requirements.
A micrometer photograph shows a single reading of 6.002mm, with the film lifted away at the measuring edge. It records that measuring point and does not establish the thickness range across the whole order.
Mill certificate: chemistry, mechanical properties and traceability
The TISCO mill certificate identifies material FA60604330N00, heat A2602278 and test number FA6060433. It records one cold rolled stainless steel coil at nominal 6 × 1250mm, with a weight of 19.479 tonnes. This is the source-coil weight, not the stated weight of the Serbian order.
Dated 24 June 2026, the document specifies 316L to ASTM A240/A240M-25a and certificate type EN 10204 3.1. Its delivery condition is 2B, solution annealed and pickled, with M denoting uncut edges. Finished sheet dimensions follow the subsequent processing and order inspection records.
| Element | Mass fraction (%) |
|---|---|
| Carbon (C) | 0.021 |
| Silicon (Si) | 0.47 |
| Manganese (Mn) | 1.12 |
| Phosphorus (P) | 0.025 |
| Sulfur (S) | 0.002 |
| Chromium (Cr) | 16.7 |
| Nickel (Ni) | 10.1 |
| Molybdenum (Mo) | 2.00 |
| Nitrogen (N) | 0.04 |
The mill’s heat analysis records 0.021% carbon and 2.00% molybdenum for the identified material. These are the reported values for this heat; they are separate from the customer’s evaluation of the finished surface.
| Test | Reported result |
|---|---|
| 0.2% proof strength, Rp0.2 | 295 MPa |
| Tensile strength, Rm | 605 MPa |
| Elongation, A50 | 56% |
| Hardness, HRBW | 75.0 and 76.0 |
| Intergranular corrosion, ASTM A262 Practice E | OK |
The certificate marks the tensile-test direction as transverse and the mechanical-test temperature as room temperature. A50 refers to a 50mm original gauge length. The results belong to the mill’s identified coil and test record; they are not separate laboratory tests on every sheet after cutting.

Download the TISCO mill certificate (PDF). Only the ordering-company and receiving-company names have been removed from this public copy, using white redaction. The original identifiers, results and declarations remain visible.
The certificate carries TISCO’s domestic-sales declaration for the source coil. Sheye explains that this declaration concerns export of the original packaged coil; the supply described in this case consists of sheets processed from the coil. The certificate is presented here as the mill record for the source material.
Economical film protection for a demanding surface
Once the customer had selected the accepted cold rolled 2B material, protecting that surface during processing was a practical part of the order. Ordinary black-and-white film was applied during cut-to-length processing to help limit handling marks and surface contact during subsequent stacking and movement.
This was a cost-conscious surface-protection choice for the 6mm sheets. Film should be selected for the operations that will follow: the ordinary film used in this case is not specified here as a laser-cutting film. Buyers with a laser-cutting requirement should state it when choosing the protective film.
