Sheye Metal supplied 316L 10mm hot rolled stainless steel plate to an equipment manufacturer in Egypt for pressure-vessel shells and heads. The order specified a No.1 surface and nominal dimensions of 10 × 1500 × 3000 mm. Production photographs and a short processing video record the material on the line, its identification marking and the dimensional checks.
For a vessel fabricator, the plate must suit both the process medium and the fabrication route. This order combines the corrosion resistance of 316L with the customer’s specified plate thickness, ready for subsequent cutting, forming and welding.
316L No.1 plate: the Egypt order specification
| Product | 316L hot rolled stainless steel plate |

| Nominal size | 10 mm thick × 1500 mm wide × 3000 mm long |
| Customer | Equipment manufacturer in Egypt |
| Intended application | Pressure-vessel shells and heads |
| Visible identification | AISI 316L; heat number A260729AB05 |
| Order records | Processing video; thickness, width, length and diagonal inspection photographs |
No.1 is a hot-rolled, annealed and pickled mill finish. It is a practical starting condition for industrial fabrication, where the surface may undergo further work after forming and welding. SSINA’s stainless steel primer describes this finish and its processing route.
The ink marking on the plate reads AISI 316L, No.1, 10 × 1500 × 3000, with heat number A260729AB05. Keeping this identification with the material helps the buyer match cut plates to the relevant order and material records.

Why 316L is used for pressure-vessel shells and heads
316L is an austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum stainless steel. Its molybdenum addition improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion compared with conventional 304 in many relevant environments. ATI’s 316L grade data lists 2.0–3.0% molybdenum and a maximum carbon content of 0.030%. These are grade reference values, separate from the analysis of this particular heat.
The low carbon content has a different role: it reduces sensitization and the associated risk of intergranular corrosion after welding. This matters when a fabricator rolls plate into shells, forms heads and joins the components. Molybdenum and low carbon therefore address different aspects of corrosion performance. Outokumpu’s corrosion guidance explains these mechanisms and the influence of operating conditions.
Corrosion resistance must be assessed against the actual medium, chloride concentration and temperature, including deposits and crevices. For pressure-containing parts, the designer also determines the required thickness and allowable stress under the applicable vessel code, allowing for corrosion and thinning during forming. The 10 mm dimension here is the customer’s order specification; the finished vessel’s pressure rating depends on its complete design and fabrication.
Processing video from the 10 mm plate order
The 43-second recording shows marked plates moving along the discharge rollers of the cut-to-length line. It gives the overseas buyer a direct view of the material during processing, alongside the still photographs used for dimensional inspection.
Thickness and dimensional inspection
The three micrometer photographs show 9.916 mm, 9.906 mm and 9.880 mm at the photographed measurement points. The ordered thickness is nominally 10 mm. Acceptance is assessed against the agreed product standard and purchase tolerances; these point readings do not represent a complete batch thickness survey.
Width and length checks are recorded at the plate edges for the nominal 1500 × 3000 mm format. The inspection also includes both diagonal directions. Comparing diagonals is useful when checking the rectangular cut before downstream fabrication. The perspective photographs document the measurement setup without establishing an exact diagonal difference or numerical squareness tolerance.

For an overseas order, photographs make the inspection process easier to review before delivery. Buyers should agree the measurement locations, tolerances and required records at the enquiry stage. Sheye Metal’s quality information provides the broader inspection context.
316L hot rolled coil stock from 3 to 16 mm
Sheye Metal is a supplier and stockist of 316L hot rolled stainless steel, with a regular coil stock range from 3 to 16 mm. Coils can be levelled and cut into plates to the customer’s required length. This allows equipment manufacturers to order plate formats that suit their cutting plans.
| Regular stock thicknesses | 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 mm |
|---|---|
| Nonstandard thicknesses available for supply | 6.35, 9.53 and 12.7 mm |
| Plate supply | Cut-to-length dimensions to suit the order |
| Availability check | Confirm the required thickness, width, quantity and delivery schedule when enquiring |
The nonstandard sizes are supply options and should be confirmed for each order. Buyers looking for 10 mm thick 316L stainless steel plate can review our 316L stainless steel plate range; customers purchasing coil can start with our 316L stainless steel coil page.
