304 coil: forming and certification questions
What should I specify for 304 coil used in drawing or bending?
Describe the finished part and the forming sequence, as well as the coil dimensions and required delivery condition. Deep drawing and simple bending place different demands on the starting material. Forming versatility is a useful property of 304, but it is not a guarantee for every geometry. Where deformation is demanding, agree the forming-quality requirements and evaluate a representative sample before treating a successful grade match as a successful production match.
Which grade and certificate details matter when buying 304 coil?
State the execution standard and edition alongside the grade reference. Type 304 / S30400, SUS304 and Chinese or EN references should be evaluated against their own requirements. The mill certificate must correspond to the delivered material and support any requested multiple certification. Include the intended downstream welding or forming route, because an apparently similar coil may have a different certified condition or manufacturing suitability. A familiar trade description does not replace the agreed inspection criteria.
