ASTM A240 covers flat products; EN 10028-7 is for pressure-purpose flat products. JIS G4305 and GB/T 3280 cover cold-rolled flat products. Their cold-rolled values must not be used as acceptance limits for hot-rolled plate, bars or profiles. Confirm the standard edition and all supplementary requirements in the purchase order and mill test certificate.

Order using the correct Chinese designation

S22152 is a Chinese unified numerical designation used for lean duplex stainless steel. For hot-rolled coil, sheet and plate enquiries, retain the exact grade description from the project specification or existing material certificate. This helps distinguish a legacy standard requirement from a current catalogue name or a steelmaker’s product designation.

GB/T 20878-2024 lists S22152 as the former numerical code for S20013. The current full designation is 022Cr20Mn5Ni2N; the former name is 022Cr21Mn5Ni2N. A change in catalogue naming should be checked alongside the product standard and edition required for the actual order.

Use the S32001 comparison correctly

The Chinese grade catalogue provides a comparison with UNS S32001 and EN 1.4482 / X2CrMnNiMoN21-5-3. These references assist material selection, but they do not automatically establish compliance with every specification.

For a project that requires both a Chinese grade and an ASTM or EN specification, ask for confirmation against the permitted chemistry, delivery condition and required tests. S22152 should not be written as “UNS S22152”. The supplied certificate must identify the agreed material rather than rely on a commercial cross-reference alone.

Specify the hot-rolled product you need

Provide thickness, width, quantity and the required form: coil, sheets cut from coil or plate. Include cut lengths and flatness requirements for flat pieces, or coil weight and handling requirements for coils. Surface finish, edge condition and any subsequent slitting or cutting should be agreed before processing.

Published standard limits and steelmaker datasheet values have different roles. Use the applicable product specification for order acceptance; use typical datasheet information to support an initial technical discussion.

Match material and fabrication requirements

Describe the component’s environment and intended forming, welding or surface treatment. Where replacing a previously supplied material, include the previous certificate and relevant drawing requirements. State the inspection document, heat identification and packing information needed by your receiving team. This gives the enquiry a consistent basis from material selection through processing and final document review.
